John Merrick was born in Birmingham, and read Music at King’s College, Cambridge.

As a piano accompanist he has collaborated with many singers, instrumentalists and choral societies, and is currently the accompanist of Ross-on-Wye Choral Society.

He has both sung in and conducted a cappella  choral groups and church choirs, and was a supernumerary lay clerk in Gloucester Cathedral choir. He now conducts the Gloucester U3A choir.

He is active as a composer of choral and instrumental music, songs and solo piano pieces.
